Our trip to the Fire Station

On Tuesday 13/09/16, Miss Davies, Mrs Bond and Miss Woosnam took the Reception children on an exhilarating school trip to Pontypridd fire station! Miss Davies dressed up as a fire fighter, wearing the helmet that belongs to the Boss! Owen even sat in the fire engine seat that belongs to the Boss fire fighter! All of the children sat in the back of the fire engine and learnt so much about the role of the heroes that are our local fire fighters. We each held the hose and squired water at a pretend fire too! It was an excellent morning!

An update!

Superhero Club

We have been enjoying learning to read in Superhero club. We have been coming every week and taking part in lots of fun activities that have helped us learn to read. We have also been awarded the Superhero certificate if we have attended most of the sessions. Here are some photos of us being busy and also a message from Mr Coles and Mr Hall. I hope they have learnt to read now too!

Reception St David’s Day

We celebrated St David’s Day and dressed in our Welsh costumes.

We sang and performed songs for each other in Welsh.

We celebrated our Eisteddfod winners and enjoyed making and eating welsh cakes.

Reception Outdoor area

We have been busy getting our outdoor area ready for spring time. We have planted lots of flowers and after Easter we will be planting some vegetables. We think it looks lovely

As part of our sports relief activities the children in Reception took part in an egg and spoon race

Our Visit to Cardiff Castle

We visited Cardiff Castle to train to become knights.

We learnt lots of things about the Castle long ago and looked at the old rooms.

We had fun and ate our lunch. Then we met Sir Devlin and he trained us to be knights .We are proud to say that we all passed the test and are qualified knights ready to slay dragons.

Our trip to Mountain View

We had a wonderful time in Mountain View where we saw lots of fairies and their homes in the trees, we met the Gruffalo and his friends as well as seeing the animals.  The weather wasn't very nice but it didn't stop us having lots and lots of fun!

Exploring shops

The children in Reception class wanted to change their construction site into a shop so we went to explore Pontypridd Market.

We found the fruit and vegetable stall and used the shopping lists we had written to buy fruit.

We have been busy exploring our favourite fruits, comparing and drawing the inside and outside of fruits and tasting lots of different fruits. Take a look at some of the things we have been doing.

Pets

We have been learning about pets and how to care for them. We have enjoyed having some special visitors to school to help us learn about looking after different animals. We loved seeing Rohan's guinea pigs and bearded dragon [many thanks to Mrs Tarr for bringing them to visit us and telling us so much about them]. Mrs Ward brought in Mo and Merv two tortoises and we looked after them all day. Take a look at our learning. We now know how to take care of pets.

Over the past few weeks we have been finding out about Pontypridd. For our homework we chose places we would like to visit on Welly Wednesdays’. So far we have visited the Old Bridge, Historical Centre, the Fountain, Ynysangharad Park and found the statues of Evan James and James James in the Park.

I think our favourite place was the playground in the park. Look at some of the photographs we have taken of places we visited and the fun we had in the playground.
