Reception Christmas Party

We had a great time at our Christmas party. We all looked fantastic in our party clothes and were very excited. We wore the special party hats we had made and the tables were decorated with the Christmas Trees we had made.
First we went into the middle block .We played different games including pass the parcel, musical statues and musical bumps .We danced to all our favourite songs until we were exhausted and won prizes for being the best dancers.
Then we had delicious party food including jelly and cream. Take a look at the photos to see how much fun we had.

Open morning

It was great to see our mums, dads and grandparents enjoy our Christmas open morning. We started by getting dressed into our costumes for our Christmas play. Thank you mums and dads for helping us.
Because we were the last class to share our Christmas play we began the activities. We decorated Christmas snowmen biscuits and made snowmen cakes using icing and marshmallows. As usual the best part of these activities was the food tasting and we all agreed they were delicious.
We also made Christmas pictures and cards for our friends. Very soon it was time for us to share our Christmas celebration. It soon became obvious that not only had the children [and parents] spent a long time learning words and sorting out costumes but they spoke, sang and played their bells brilliantly. Best of all the children showed how talented they were and also how much they enjoyed performing for everyone. Well done to all of you. It was a real celebration of Christmas.
Enjoy some of the photos of us during the open morning.

Welly Walk Wednesday

As part of our Welly Walk Wednesday this week we went on a visit to the Library.
When we arrived Mrs Ward read us the story of “The Gruffalo Child” which we really enjoyed,  lots of us had heard the story before but we all agreed it was definitely one of our favourites. Then we chose our own books .We love looking at books and reading stories and we were able to find lots of books to share with our friends. Some of the books we brought back to school. We could not believe how quickly the time went. Before we left we listened to another story this time about dinosaurs and Mrs Ward reminded us that we can borrow books from the library when we want if we go with our mum and dads.
We enjoyed it so much we are planning to go again and swap our books for some more. But first we want to enjoy the books we have borrowed. Take a look at us reading lots of books in the library.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

We have been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We turned the home corner into the bears cottage, painted pictures of our favourite character and wrote descriptions of them. We have sorted bears, bowls, chairs and beds into different sizes and ordered them. We made and tasted different types of porridge and made a simple chart of our favourite one. Baby Bear’s honey porridge was our favourite.
We have really enjoyed learning about the story of Goldilocks but cant wait to find out about the story of the Gingerbread man.

Sad News

Sad news in Mrs Ward’s Class

When the new children came into Mrs Ward’s class Talking Ted made a very sad announcement that he has retired. He is too old to keep visiting the children’s homes each weekend so he is retiring to the book corner where he is looking forward to the children reading stories to him everyday.

However in his place he has sent us a very special friend Maesy . He is a monster and has already enjoyed visiting some of the children He has been to parties castles allsorts of places. Each week he chooses one of the children to stay with. They take him everywhere they go and take photos and draw pictures of the things they have done. When he comes back to school on Monday all the other children ask questions to find out where he has been and what he has been doing. Take a look at him with the children in Mrs Ward’s class.

Big Bad Wolf

Learning about “The Three Little Pigs”

We have been learning about the three pigs and the big bad wolf. We really loved the story and have enjoyed using the puppets to retell the story.
We made straw, stick and brick houses. On our welly walk we looked for different shapes in the buildings and houses by our school and we collected some sticks to make the stick houses. We looked at the textures and took some rubbings of different surfaces.
We have learnt to play “What’s the time Mr Wolf” and sequenced different times of the day.
We painted and collaged characters from the story, made play dough pigs and Wanted posters to describe the Big Bad Wolf.
Look at some of the photos of our learning.

Write Dance

The children in Miss Davies’s class have been enjoying taking part in a literacy initiative called Write Dance. Miss Davies has been teaching the children to develop their pencil control and letter formation skills through dance. The children listen to music, practise a specific dance and then use the dance to draw on large pieces of paper. It has been great fun!

Outside and Gardening

The children have thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine this term! We have been planting a variety of seeds, plants and flowers and have been recording their progress. We have also loved reading in the sunshine, building in the construction area and playing in the sand and water. Many thanks to Daisy Moon and her family who have also donated a wormery to our class. The children have collected fruit peelings which we placed in the wormery and we found loads of worms during our welly walks!

Welly Walk - April 25th

The children and staff went on an exciting welly walk to observe whether the birds in the local area had eaten the bread, bird food and lard balls we had left for them previously. We were pleased to see that all the food we had left had been eaten up by the birds.
The children asked why we do not have many birds in our outdoor areas. We discussed birds habitats and how we could encourage birds to our school. As a result we are making bird feeders and nets to encourage birds to visit us. Look out for them in the Reception yard over the coming weeks!

Bristol Zoo

We had a fabulous day at Bristol Zoo. There was plenty to see and plenty to do.  We walked amongst the dinosaurs and crept passed the lions, we sneaked passed the snakes and walked cautiously by the gorillas.  We enjoyed eating our picnics before the animals ate them!

Science Week

We did lots of lovely experiments especially colour mixing and separation using milk.  We poured milk into a bowl and added drops of food colouring. We put washing up liquid onto a cotton bud and put it in the middle of the food colouring and amazing things happened. The colouring all spread out and created fantastic patterns.
